A Visit, a Sore Throat and Pillars

Chuck was here last night, which is so wonderful because he put the boys to bed for me. (*does happy dance with high kicks and singing*) I didn’t put the boys in pjs, didn’t brush their teeth and didn’t shovel them into bed. The other parent did those things. I sat on the couch watching Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It was as FABULOUS as it sounds.

Today I woke up with a sore throat and a swollen gland on my right side. This is only fitting since the boys have been hack-coughing for more than a week. After seven days of wiping their snotty noses, it’s expected that I’d soon be wiping my own. My hope is that this little detour is short-lived because I’ve been doing such a great job with race training thus far. There’s still 10 weeks until the half marathon, but losing a week to sickness and another week to recovery can make a big difference.

But, just in case I have to take a break from the treadmill, I will happily plop myself on the couch and enjoy watching the Pillars of the Earth miniseries again (it originally aired on the Starz channel last year but I picked up the DVDs today at Target as a treat). If you haven’t read Pillars of the Earth and its sequel, World Without End, indulge yourself. They are each an incredible read.
