35

Seventeen years ago I spent my 18th birthday with the Miller family in the very city where we now live. I had just graduated from high school, was about to leave for college, and had been dating Chuck for six months. On August 2, 1996, I joined my boyfriend and his parents for the weekend to attend my first Miller Family Reunion. Aunt Benny made me a birthday cake, and all of the extended family members welcomed me with warm hugs and sweet remarks. We even took a photo in front of Uncle Henry’s Corvette.

(Please forgive Chuck for wearing socks with his sandals. It was 1996, after all.)

18th bday

At the time, none of us knew that in four years I would marry into the family. Likewise, none of us knew that 17 years later we’d be living in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains with our two children just ten minutes down the road from where this picture was taken.

My cup runneth over even still. Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Life is very, very good.

  1. In sifting through old pictures at my grandma’s house today, I found the picture of you guys in front of the corvette. Gwen says, “I gotta talk to him about those socks!” And, then I log on and find your post. Love you guys! 😉
