Unfortunately, I’m not referring to a race. In fact, I’ve withdrawn from the St. Louis Half Marathon, which I was hoping to run this weekend, and I’m admittedly down about it. Though my reasons for withdrawing are all valid, practical and even responsible (have you seen gas prices?), the perfectionist in me sees this as a failure. My mood today reflects that.
Instead, the finish line I’m referring to is the completion of the Green Bay book. My personal deadline is next Friday, even though Jim and I agreed that the end of April was reasonable. The content and major design is finished, but since he switched printers (which means new layout guidelines), I’m tweaking every page to fit within the new margins and bleeds… all 507 pages. It’s tedious. There’s no other word for it. However, it’s giving me even more opportunity to identify mistakes, redesign pages and make sure every detail is just how I want it.
Minimal advertising is underway for the book, so if you’re on Facebook, feel free to “Like” the page. The cover design isn’t finalized, but it’s far enough along to use for book promotion. There is a website under construction for it, so when it’s ready, I’ll pass along the link.
We’re taking it easy this week since we no longer have weekend travel plans. It’s just as well since Jackson has strep throat, and it’s likely that Jeremy will be next. We had not found a primary care doctor yet, so after calling around yesterday, we found a practice that is nearby and in our network. The wait was long, but not unbearably so.
After the doctor examined Jack and confirmed my strep suspicion, he said, “Do you have a primary care physician in town yet?”
“We do now,” I said. “Congratulations!”
Eventually we’ll all go in for physicals to establish our file. Still to find is an eye doctor, an audiologist, a gynecologist and, ahem, a dentist.
