It’s been hard for me to remember that there are only eight planets in our solar system because not too long ago there were nine. Pluto still exists, of course, but it’s under a different classification now, so doing astronomy with the boys has been a learning experience for me too.
They are fascinated by our astronomy lessons and it’s my hope that we can do lots of star gazing once the time changes and it’s darker earlier in the evening. Until then, the boys will be enjoying more science videos from the public library.
We put together a glow-in-the-dark solar system (sans Pluto) and hung it up under the chandelier in the library. Placing them under the lights was an attempt to “charge” the glowy-ness of the plastic. (I know glowy-ness isn’t a word, but I can’t think of another one to use.)
The glow capacity of these planets stink, but it’s given our little homeschool room a decorative boost. Still, the boys think it’s way cool to have a solar system in our house. You can see how excited Salem is about it, too.
