If you know Jackson, then you certainly know his affinity for the superhero world. You will likely recognize his Iron Man mask before you recognize his face. Any conversation you’ve had with him was likely related to Iron Man, or any Marvel character for that matter. On the rare occasion, he’ll drop words about someone from DC Comics. (That will undoubtedly pick up after seeing Man of Steel in June.)
As the mother of a wannabe superhero, it is my job to keep his uniforms in tact. I realized only yesterday, when Jackson tearfully brought his Thor costume to me, that I’ve been failing in this particular area.
Thor has a hole in his backside.
I’ve already whipped out my needle and thread to remedy this dilemma, but it occurred to me that I ought to check out the rest of Jackson’s collection. These pieces are well loved.
Jackson’s beloved Iron Man costume is literally shredding at the seams, so I’ll be on the hunt for a new one in the next size up so he can continue his work as Tony Stark throughout the summer. Did you know Iron Man 3 comes out tomorrow? If you’ve been around Jackson in the last month, then I’m confident you do.
Motherhood is exhausting both mentally and physically. It has been the greatest challenge of my thirty-something life thus far. And while I tend to wish away the work of mothering two young boys on a difficult day, I will dearly miss this season of raising a superhero. When Jackson no longer wants to be Peter Parker or Clark Kent, I will cry my mommy eyes out in mourning. It will signify the transition from childhood to adolescence, and it will take great effort on my part to let it go.
Of course, I can always hold out hope for this:
Jennie, you should take Jackson to Free Comic Book Day! http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/1/27/992
