From deck to garden fence

We are slowly but surely working on the back yard. The previous owners had an above ground pool with decking around it, and when they abandoned the house they took the pool and left the deck. That resulted in a circular sand pit in the center of the yard surrounded by rotting wood.

Chuck spent the bulk of last week tearing the deck down and that yielded a ton of wood (that had yet to rot) to use for other projects. First on the list was a fence around the garden. I already shared with you that Major had clawed his way into the compost, so we quickly realized that wire fencing wasn’t going to be enough to keep the dog out. (All of this dog management has prevented me from planting anything, adding to my frustration. Fortunately the Farmers Almanac says I have a few weeks left in the season.)

For the record, I am so thankful to have such an incredible handyman on staff at this house.

There’s even a lock to keep the dog out. LockedWe’ll get the topsoil next week and I’ll finally plant a few things. I am so grateful to Chuck for building this entire garden just for me. I haven’t gardened since before we moved to Texas, so seeing this in the backyard, even though it’s empty, brings me a lot of joy.
