Chuck bought this pendant for me at the race expo two weeks ago in Atlanta. I adore it. It fits perfectly alongside my signature J.
As I prepare for another half marathon this weekend, I keep thinking about running another full. The amount of devotion required for 26 miles is far more than twice the amount needed for a half. It means dedicating a couple of months running 16, 18, and 20 miles on a Saturday morning, with 10, 12, and 14-mile runs mid-week. It means hours on the pavement feeling like the space between you and the finish line is infinite. It means sore knees, chaffing in sensitive places and running when you really, really don’t want to.
And then I think of this documentary again and wonder, well maybe just one more.
[vimeo http://vimeo.com/24897158]The Spirit of the Marathon is a few years old. Chuck and I drove down to Atlanta to see it in a theater on the one night it was showing. I cried through the entire last half of it, just like I cried through the last two miles of the marathon I ran in 2008 (especially when I saw Becky, Jeff, and Chuck cheering me on with medals around their necks). But if you’re a runner, or want to be a runner, you ought to drop it in your queue.
Happy {Race} Weekend!
Agreed — that’s a great movie!
thanks for this post, Jennie! Plan to watch this with Neil! And I will ask Andy and Megan if they have seen it:) Andy ran his first marathon in Savannah this year. Love reading your posts, Beth
Yes, I knew Megan and her husband were racers now. They would love it! Miss you guys 🙂
